Artificial prostate-specific antigen persistence after radical prostatectomy.

چکیده
Introduction Serum prostate-specific antigen (PSA) is of paramount importance as a diagnostic tool for the detection, staging, and monitoring of patients with prostate cancer. Because PSA is organ but not disease specific, it has certain limitations as a screening test for prostate cancer. After radical prostatectomy (RP), however, PSA is an excellent tumor marker with a high sensitivity and specificity for the diagnosis of recurrent or residual disease. The serum half-life of PSA, after removal of all prostatic tissue, is 2 to 3 days. Therefore, PSA levels can be expected to decrease below the detectable limit within 4 to 6 weeks after RP. PSA persistence at a significant level beyond this point is usually a strong indicator for disseminated prostate cancer. This is not an uncommon clinical scenario, especially in high-risk disease, and it often leads to immediate additional treatment for the respective patient.

Prevalence of Lymph Node Metastasis in Radical Prostatectomy; A Retrospective and Multicenter Study in Iran
Lymph node (LN) metastasis is considered an important prognostic factor in patients with prostate cancer. The aim of this study was to determine the rate of LN metastasis among an Iranian population who underwent radical prostatectomy (RP) with pelvic LN dissection (PLND). In a retrospective review of medical records, 450 RP cases were included and the data on LN metastasis were extracted from ...

OBJECTIVE The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy and prognostic factors of salvage radiotherapy for prostate-specific antigen relapse after radical prostatectomy for prostate cancer at a single center in Japan. METHODS A retrospective review of the medical records of 51 patients who underwent salvage radiotherapy for prostate-specific antigen relapse after radical prostatectomy...
متن کامل[Prostate cancer recurrence after radical prostatectomy and salvage radiotherapy].
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the efficacy of the radiotherapy to prostatic bed in patients with biochemical recurrence for prostate cancer after radical prostatectomy. MATERIAL AND METHODS We analyse the results of 292 patients underwent radical prostatectomy for localized prostate cancer T1-T2 between January 1992 and June 2003, with an average folow-up of 36 months (range 6 months to 12 years). We...
متن کاملPrognostic significance of prostate cancer susceptibility variants on prostate-specific antigen recurrence after radical prostatectomy.
Recent genomewide association studies have identified several prostate cancer susceptibility variants. However, the association between these variants and biochemical failure in prostate cancer patients receiving radical prostatectomy has not been determined. We systematically evaluated 20 prostate cancer-associated single-nucleotide polymorphisms in a cohort of 320 localized prostate cancer pa...
متن کاملElimination of serum free and total prostate-specific antigen after radical retropubic prostatectomy.
Elimination kinetics of serum total and free prostate-specific antigen were studied for a ten days course after radical retropubic prostatectomy on 11 patients suffering from organ confined prostate cancer. Samples were taken before operation, immediately after finishing the operation and 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 h after prostatectomy and then once a day for the following ten days. The measurements wer...
